Delta APC 2015: O'tega Governorship bid suffers major setback as Urhobo nation rejects him, endorses Jonathan and Ogboru.
The Umbrella body of The Urhobo Nation, Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), today formally Endorsed the candidature of President Goodluck Jonathan of the people's Democratic Party (PDP) and the Gubernatorial Candidate of the Labour Party (LP); Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru as both President and Governorship candidate of the Urhobo Nation. In a communique issued after the monthly Executive meeting of the UPU the publicity secretary of the body, Chief Mike Okenini, said the decision of the executives was reached after due consultation with all the relevant stakeholders and organs of the Union, the statement further stated that though it was a difficult decision to come by, but in accordance with the quest of the majority of the Urhobos seeking a better deal in Governance and the test of popularity contest carried out, the Union has to take this bold stand.
The decision to endorse the duo of Goodluck Jonathan and Ogboru was reached after a vote having Ten members of the executive in support of the Goodluck Jonathan and Great Ogboru, while five members voted against.
By this resolution, the governorship bid of Olorugun O'tega Emerhor has indeed suffered a major setback, haven be rejected by his kinsmen. O'tega has allegedly been banking on the perceived numerical strength of the urhobo nation to win the february 28th gubernatorial election.
